Although Im not a fan of Naizen again getting away (metaphorically) again with his insult to Shigitoshi during the Khan's March. I do appreciate seeing our former Clan Champion showing the intelligence, wisdom and honor to know when to sheathe his sword and let sleeping dogs lie. Maybe Naizen being "lost" at sea is his Karmic come-uppance for his actions during that time. Or he is just being a cowardly dog and hiding lol.

It looks as though Naizen decided to retire and change his name and used a "death" to cover it.

I'm not awake enough to really discuss an opinion on it.

This story does mark a major milestone for the Lion.

Shigetoshi is the first Lion champ, with a card with that status, to retire.

Slacker!

Does he think he's too good to die on the field of battle?

Personally, I'm very much not a fan of the Mantis. Naizen, in particular, has always annoyed me in the story, mainly because of the way in which he settled his debt with the Unicorn. That having been said, I think this story was great at pointing out the strength, and the weakness, of both the Mantis and the Lion Clans. The Mantis's strength is that they are, for the most part, untethered to anything; they just don't care if someone is pissed at them. Their weakness, at least in my view, is that they are untethered to anyone else; another side of their advantage is that they cannot truly depend on anyone, because no one really trusts them not to simply sail off into the sunset. The Lion's strength, in contrast, is that they are honorable to an extreme extent; they will not forget anything or anyone who slights their Honor, and they will do their utmost to uphold the Empire, which builds alliances simply because they are completely dedicated to the good of the Empire. The Lion's weakness, however, is that they can't see the forest for the trees, sometimes; the Lion just can't let a slight to their Honor go, even if it is the best thing for the Clan, and even for the Empire in some instances. Both of those things were demonstrated to a great extent in this story, and I loved it. :)

And the way they handled their debt with the Spider? They played escort and once at the destination, they filled them with arrows.

Ken's right. This is the first carded Lion champ to survive to retirement.
