But you guys get to go first. That makes it balanced to borderline o.p.

Works pretty well with the Kitsu box.

Once again I'm now tremendously excited by the possibilities for honor gain jank that this stronghold and the SC suite of peeps and actions present us....
I do so so SO hope that Only Actions Speak doesn't see an EE re-print.
It will neuter this deck even more brutally than it neutered my lovely CE deathseeker-honor jank deck from about 8-9 month ago...
Can anyone reading this assuage my fears? The banning of OAS from War of Honor is a small indication I know, but this is more re multiplayer...

I don't know if anyone can legitimately assuage your "fears" but I somehow doubt that OAS will make it into EE. Just like I doubt Shameful and Cowardly or any other powerful meta cards will make it in the beginning of the EE arc.
It does look like Kitsu Akai will work well with the Halls of Memory but I still have my doubts of whether it'll be competitive in the beginning of the arc without more Ancestor production. Right now we have one personality who creates them when she comes into play and Akai who can make one every turn but is very expensive.
And I haven't seen too many good water spells that support the deck. Intervening spirits counters send home I suppose but I'm more worried about all the kill and bow so they can eliminate our Ancestors and stymie our defense next turn. All of the other water spells can't be used from home and don't really impress me too much.

The box alleviates the worry about her fragility, even if we didn't have a wonky Doomed running around to help with that. I'll wait to see how bad she hurts the gold. I'm still don't think it's smart to force an honor deck out of a 3G box to use a 10g lynchpin.

Assuming we still go first in all matchups, I don't think it will be that big of a deal.

Quote: Assuming we still go first in all matchups, I don't think it will be that big of a deal. not that i'm planning on playing ancestors, but i have to agree here. going first means you can seriously bulk up on gold production early in the game. yeah it may take a little longer to have a strong defense up, but it's not like this would be the first honor deck that relied on presenceless defense in the early game.

As I said to a v.good local crane player just before they got embassy: Going first for an honor deck is a serious serious advantage. When he further complained about the lack of stronghold ability, I told him that going first was still easily worth it.
Alot of those comments apply to this box as well. What it really needs though is some high-powered cheap personalities and/or more ways to generate ancestors. If we get both of these come November then this is likely to be up there as a Tier 1.5 deck at least I'd say... It all depends on what the EE base set brings to players really...

Prosperous Village in combination with (mutliple) Kagako(s) could be boosting the cold curve enough to pay for Akai easily.

As a heads up:
Tentative Kitsu deck experimentation thus far leads me to believe that Akai's cost will not be as prohibitive as I had feared with the advent of Remote Villages and the return of Small Farm.
Contrary to what some folks might believe, I fully admit when I am wrong, and in this I think I was.

My sums say you'll see at least one Copper Mine or Remote Village in the first 8 cards in 76% of games, and at least one in the first 12 in 90% of games, giving you the option of Akai and a holding turn 2 (as long as it's not a RV).

When I heard that Small Farm was coming back, I was somewhat alarmed. This led me to run some test scenarios with what is known about EE so far. What I found was that if it didn't flip on turn one, it was more of a hindrance than anything. As the game now begins on what used to be turn 2, the potency has diminished greatly. For most decks, you can't treat it as a "real" holding slot, so it will eat into your personality or event/region slots. Based on that, I feel that Small Farm is going to see scattered to limited play outside of blitz or swarm. This of course assumes that there is no farm scheme tricks coming back in the base set. Having said that, I still think Akai is going to be a monster with just Copper Mine and Remote Village, especially out of the Halls stronghold.

After using her in my Obsidian Championships deck, I can say that she's beastly. She usually takes up the equivalent of buying two people but she spawned more than enough ancestors. Combined with Akodo's Guidance (which I don't see coming back), she was 6f for 8g spread over two people and only got better from there. If there are force pumps like Border Ambush, she'll be amazing.
