Event was great, was surprised we didn't get more people to the event (previous Ft. Worth Koteis ~80-100 ppl) we had around 66 I think. No problems leading up to event, got there on time, and was expecting the worst considering my play testing was pretty abysmal with Den of Iniquity out.
Round 1 - Grant Huddleston - Dragon Kensai - Foothills Keep
And one of my worst matchups to start the day off. I had a feeling that there were going to be a lot of Kensai net decks considering how strong it was. I got to 39 honor before he crushed me.
0-1
Round 2 - Rain Pletcher - Scorpion Dishonor - Mid-day Shadow Court
And another worst matchup and no less to another local player of my playgroup. We nearly go to time, but he thought he had me and was willing to throw down the double loss. Not expecting to do so great after this point I concede instead so he can advance. It proved fortuitous as he managed to make it to top 8 that day.
0-2
Round 3 - Nicholas Basey - Lion Switch - Shamate Keep
Ugh, Didn't want to have to run into another Lion in the low tables. We both have fun and stay around same honor until I finally get my shugenja and ancestors online and hit him with 2 visitations and he concedes.
1-2
Round 4 - Chris Vazquez - Lion Switch - Shamate Keep
And again, this time another local Lion player from my playgroup. We have fun with this game and he gets me down to my last province but I managed to send him home and he concedes at that point. I hate to have to knock out other Lion, but I just shake my fist at the computer that is managing the matchups.
2-2
Round 5 - Scott Jasinski - Unicorn Commanders - Journey's End Keep
This was a bit of a blowout as he had never run into any Halls of Memory decks and was completely blown away by how fast I was gaining honor.
3-2
Round 6 - Sopy Khiv - Lion Blitz - Eternal Victory Dojo
So I'm starting to think I can make it to the 5-2 cut round considering I've been doing a death star run from 0-2 to 3-2 now. I run into a devastating Lion blitz deck that uses Suoh and Sorano with Consideration to take a province turn 2. I don't get any of my ancestors online, but Skipping the Puddle, Seeking the Way, and a one turn non-honor buy allow me to bow her army with equal force and I manage to cross. Closest game I've played in a long time coming down to last cards in both our hands.
4-2
Round 7 - Ray Jabinski - Dragon Kensai - Foothills Keep
Annnnnnnnnd my heart sinks as I learn of the match-up. To put a good spin however, I did knock his brother out of the running, so it's only fair that a revenge strike puts me at 4-3. Started the day with a loss to Kensai, and end the day with a loss to Kensai.
4-3
Was expecting more dishonor with Den being legal that week, but they did wreck the field, 2 of top 4 were dishonor (Scorpion and Crab). Overall a fun event, hope to come back again next year.
