It was never that "Taint doesn't count as a Story effect"; it is that I moved away from a hard-and-fast rule of "1-3 = tainted, 4 or more = corrupt". The reason I moved away from the rigid rule was that it was relatively easy to abuse, and based on player responses to certain story prizes, players were upset at the use of the rigid rule.
Story always reserves the right to factor in deck construction when implementing story results. It is a discretionary decision
