I've been trying this in a couple of tactician + paragons decks. It speeds up my deck quite nicesly, though it's a bit risky (10 honor loss is huge) but I tend to see a brawl/control de board often enough to ensure I could destroy it before my opponent goes for it.

What are your advices on this?

To me it seems like a "high risk"/"low reward" card. Brawl is getting played pretty extensively, and risking an 10 point honor loss at any point seems like it would just basically shut you down, or slow you down enough that you couldn't clear 5 provinces anyway.

Keep in mind Brawl doesn't make the Honor loss kick in. Only if the Province is destroyed will you lose the 10 Honor. I think he mentioned Brawl because if worse comes to worse you can use Brawl to destroy the Plains yourself and avoid the Honor loss.

RTFC, amiright, boys? Sorry about that. I guess then I'll counter by saying with the amount of province sleaze going on these days (Brave New World, Ret, Perfect Moment, Duty of the Crab...etc.) it may not be worth it. I'd have a hard time believing it's better than Second City and possibly Shinden Shorai.

On the other hand I have noticed that province sleaze is almost always them going around you to take other provinces and avoiding early opposed battles. Which means if you do plan on defending you can defend the Plains and save two Dynasty cards thereby keeping your production up.

I do like the possibility of Shinden Shorai and The Second City working together but to get the same kind of effectiveness you need both of them up vs 1 Plains. Granted they both have some utility without the other but it's not quite the same.

Now that Plains no longer immediately reveals the second card, it takes a couple of turns for it to pass the effectiveness of Second City.

You lost me there, could you explain? As far as I know, you d not reveal the second card the turn Plains enters play, but you do reveal both cards from there on.

Now that it doesn't allow the second card to be revealed right away it acts like any other Region and will kick in the following turn, unless of course it comes up first turn and then it is just awesome for BK.

Unless you are packing a lot of Events/Regions/Celestials it is equal to Second City on the next turn and is better every turn thereafter. What really makes a big difference is how well you can protect it.

You can't do anything about someone using Brawl to take it out but if you can't prevent someone from taking that province Militarily it can be a big handicap. On the flip side it's one province with the production of two so if you can keep it protected it'll be a huge resource and a big advantage when trading provinces.

He's refering to Jeff Alexander's bizarre ruling from GenCon 2004 - available here if you search for Plains of Otosan Uchi:
If it gets attached to a Province while that Province is being revealed during the Events Phase, the second card can be revealed before moving to the next Province.

You can see the relevant, Diamon Edition text here, and try and work out for yourself Jeff's thought processes that lead him to that conclusion - I can't.

It has to work for two turns to be a net gain at the cost of a very big risk.

Compare it to Second City or Shinden Shorai. It no longer measures up as regions go.

You're not alone. But please let's not discuss He Who Must Not Be Named any more it makes me nervous.
