The Swift Sword

In light of the developments in the conclusion of Celestial Edition, we have a new status quo. The propagator of Shourido has been elevated (descended) to mastery of Jigoku. The taint is no longer the infection that we have known, it is now "a gift" willingly accepted from the new dark lord. The Spider is now a Great Clan. Their tainted followers exiled to the colonies with a mandate to "conquer in the Empress name."

So now I ask, where do the White Lion stand? How do we navigate in a world of grays, in an Empire that chooses to negotiate with the Darkness rather than stand against it?

I was thinking we should seek an alliance with other clans to offset the spider's influence. Perhaps the phoenix?

I'm not sure the Lion in the story should look for strong alliances at all, really, nor would anyone accept them. Don't get me wrong, I think a hard alliance could help the Lion a lot, considering our reduced military capacity, and the suffering in the Lion lands. But the duty of the Lion kind of gets in the way of that. The Lion clan has two real duties, actually. We are the Right Hand of the Emperor, which means that we're obviously the main military power of the Empire (or at least we were...we still have to see if we've retained that after the plague war). What the Right Hand does while the Empire isn't in all out war, however, will keep our allies few, because the Lion have a habit of attacking any Clan that steps out of line with the Empire. We've done it before, a LOT, and we'll continue doing so until the Clan gets outright destroyed. The Unicorn can tell you all about that, as they're the most recent additions to the "we messed 'em up" wall. That means the other Clans don't really like the Lion so much; they fear pissing us off. That's not the best thing to base an alliance on, unfortunately.

And, don't think the White Lion are immune from that distinction. First off, ALL Lion are seen as potential enemies in the future. Secondly, the White Lion have been behind some of the cases of the Lion punishing Clans who have failed their duties. It's not just the Black Lion who get a bad rep, here.

What am I playing now? [still in development]

Other then our alliance with the Crab, who else do we have alliances with? Personally, I would like to see more "soft" power used. It would be good to see more then us being the military muscle.

True our duty is to defend the empire but if we continuelly fight amongst ourselves will we not be open to others attacking us.
