Random thought:
Remember the designer diaries for EE and how AEG plan to release multiple strongholds per family after the initial release of 4 per clan?
Perhaps releasing Sensei's might have been a nicer way of going about it?
It seems a simple idea Perhaps in modified form though) that has a resonance for older players while being something cool for newer players. Plus it opens up a whole dimension of fluffy background-integration such as Sensei's from previous arcs who are still alive at the end but without current-arc legal cards....

Celestials seem to fill the niche of customizing decks that senseis used to, although not from the beginning of the game.
The problem with senseis in general, especially in an environment that they're trying to support multiple strongholds per clan, is that a sensei that makes a fun, playable alternative out of one stronghold becomes a raging beast of a card out of a different stronghold. And if you're going to "lock" a sensei to a single stronghold for balance issues, you may as well just print a new stronghold.
That's not even taking into consideration multi-clan/all-clan senseis, like Nio Sensei which was quaint in most builds but 100% game-altering out the Horde box.
(What would I like back in an EE environment? Hida Ubogin.)
