Im totally confused here, why exactly did Domotai get chosen to be Admin? Clan 'loyalty' is one thing, but having one of the most notorious whiners on L5R forums is clearly a net negative overall. While there is obviously a group of players who want to 'stick it to the man' at every opportunity (marty cough cough), in the end its really in your(our) sites' best interest to have people in charge that are on good terms with AEG. Dan is not one of these people.

Dont misunderstand, I have no problems with Dan Walters as a person. Outside of one (admittedly HILARIOUS) negative interaction with him, he's a pleasant enough fellow in person. However, in the end do you want the Swift Sword to be grouped with TheScorpionClan and the Mantis boards, which are ran by people that not very well-regarded (and are for the most part ignored by top players) or do you want to be associated with the Crane boards and Dojo of Lies, which have leadership that is respected by the community at large? In either case, you cant say you werent given a heads up in advance :)

I, as a long-time Lion player and member of this board, have to agree with Fox's post. The idea of having one of the people responsible for both my absence and the absence of many others from this board will NOT contribute to the overall health and atmosphere of this board.

I joined this board and it was vibrant but, as the community grew to be more and more negative overall, it began to slow down. There was less discussion and more whining. I fail to see how Domotai being chosen as admin will help at all.

To clarify, things have the potential to work out in the end here, but Dans attitude relative to how its been for the entire time Ive seen him post on forums has to change. If he recognizes this, you guys have a chance to have a respected site. If you as a group dont care about that, then by all means advocate that Dan continue communicating in the way he has until this point.

Fox, is this your way of saying that you want to be admin on Alderac?

My chances of being Admin on Alderac is about the same as my chances of being Admin on this site. My desire for both is the same as my chances.

Hivis, I'm sorry for overlooking your post. You definitely deserve to be answered. I dimly recall reading your posts back in the old days, and yes - it was better then. The memories of those times is what makes this community special to me.

But I think you're wrong about why the board experienced a decline. We complained because we felt mistreated by AEG during the great decline from the days of early Diamond. Whether that was in the mind of every individual or not, that was how the community behaved. No administration could change that atmosphere. All the admin can ever do is sort out technical problems and crop obviously anti-social behaviour.

For me, the message is clear. We cannot and should not rely on things going our way in the CCG or its storyline in order to have a good feeling about the Lion Clan. What I've told myself to do is this: Contribute. Make people laugh. Show people things they never knew about the game and its history. In short, I'm trying to create the kind of posts I want to read on this board. There are plenty of members and ex-members of this community who have much more to offer than I do, but I am doing what I can to make this a good place again.

Please help me.

Lion has been one of the most successful clans in the history of the game. Thats why overall this forum is regarded as kind of a joke by most players, because some of the most vocal whiners belong to one of the best clans in the game.

There is whinners in every clan of every game in every part of this whinning World you know ;)

By the way I'm judging no one as I'm no judge. But TSS needed admin and moderators, and there wasn't as many candidates as it should have been. You could have voluntered. Every one could have. Boards need dedicated people to live on. And Domotai proposed himself.

Now the question is better none or someone who dedicate himself?
I don't know Domotai but I prefer someone in charge better than a dying board.

Now you can propose your services if you care =)

So you just joined the board to become a whiner like this?

It`s really interesting how many new members Domotai brought to this Forum in a so short time.

Not to marginalize the position, but does the admin really matter? Sure, some of us have a "stick it to the man" attitude. Yes, particularly going into the new arc, I feel AEG is being very antagonistic towards the Lion. When the fictions depict us near endlessly as incompetent, bullies, and easily defeated, yeah, it gets my hackles up. When our clan champion is killed in an off screen duel, and a member of the story team tells us to just accept it, and if we retaliate, its us being aggressors, thats a bitter pill to swallow. Some of our previews for this arc have been less than stellar, our guidance comes to mind. So I apologize if AEG's opinion of who runs our board means little to me.

Sure, they can pull their previews from the site. I personally would be glad to see them go, and think they should revamp their entire system if they want to do clan previews.

But you know what all of this has in common? Its easily dismissed as "whining" if you don't agree with it. And it has, and should have, ZERO impact on who runs the board. Domotai has the job for two reasons. He stepped up and offered to do it, and Jed approved of him. Thats good enough for me, and should be good enough for anyone who chooses to post here.

We did not vote or even choose who would run this site. He was picked for us. Thank you for your time.

Speaking as a fairly new member of this board and having come back into L5R in CE after ~13 years away I think it's a fair comment that I'm pretty much an outsider to all that's been going on recently. At the same time however, this does give me more of a novel "outsider" perspective which, by sharing with you here, I hope might be illuminating.

Reading many of the recent posts and threads though I've been at times perplexed, saddened, confused, and irritated by all manner of recent postings across multiple threads.

I've read really quite unpleasant personal attacks bandied about which seemed reminiscent of 13 year old boys squabbling in a lunch queue....

I've seen 5-year-past registered members with tiny post counts suddenly popping-up again but with the only apparent aim of dragging up issues from many-many years ago while seemingly trying to speak with an authority born from knowing certain people personally or from having the ear of people in or around AEG themselves.

It's honestly all a very very depressing read and speaks of an internet community which seems completely at odds with the really decent folk I've met at local tournies and koteis (a minutes silence post Japan floods, charity auctions, kind spirited tournament play etc).

I don't have any immediate solutions to these problems, but I do hope that by writing them for those of you more 'in the know' to read that some good may result...

I truly want a pleasant read when I come here and to feel part of a a greater global community of lion players who are all mutually invested in the shared l5r hobby experience and are respectful of one another. Hopefully, you all do as well and that this is something we can try and aim for with this board.

Cheers to you all,

Jim

i think some of the tiny post counts are related to database issues from a few years back wiping out a bunch of posts, i'm pretty sure i've posted way more than 40 times on this board.
